ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To observe the clinical efficacy of transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation (TEAS) combined with warm acupuncture in treating breast cancer associated with upper limb lymphedema (BCRL).@*METHODS@#This was a retrospective cohort study using a paired control design. Fifty-two BCRL patients were assigned to the control group (27 cases) and the treatment group (25 cases). The patients in the control group were treated with lymphedema comprehensive detumescence treatment (CDT) for 4 weeks, including systematic therapy composed of manual lymphatic drainage, compression bandage, skincare, and functional exercise. The patients in the treatment group were treated with TEAS combined with warm acupuncture based on the control group methods. Each treatment lasted for 30 min and was applied twice a week for 4 weeks. The arm circumference (AC) of different positions of the affected limb and the degree of swelling of the affected limb were evaluated before the first treatment and after the last treatment. The clinical efficacy was evaluated according to the degree of edema before and after treatment. All adverse events during treatment were recorded.@*RESULTS@#The patients' AC and the swelling feeling of the affected limb in the treatment group and the control group were both reduced compared with those before treatment. Compared with the control group, AC of the wrist joint transverse stria, the midpoint between the wrist joint transverse stria and the elbow joint transverse stria in the treatment group were significantly reduced (P<0.05). The decrease in AC diameter at the midpoint between the elbow joint transverse stria and the axillary transverse stria was the most significant (P<0.01). The swelling degree of the affected limbs in the treatment group was significantly lower than before treatment, and was significantly lower compared with the control group after treatment (P<0.01). The total effective rate was 72% in the treatment group, significantly higher than that in the control group (55.56%, P<0.05). No serious adverse events occured in either group.@*CONCLUSIONS@#TEAS combined with warm acupuncture can effectively reduce AC and swelling feeling of the affected limb in patients with BCRL. The effect is better than that of CDT therapy alone. (Registration No. ChiCTR2200062075).

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of warm acupuncture on chondrocyte cytoskeleton protein Rho associa-ted protein kinase (ROCK)/ monopherine domain kinase 1 (LIMK1)/Cofilin signaling of synovial tissue of the knee-joint in knee osteoarthritis (KOA) rats, so as to explore its mechanisms underlying improvement of KOA. METHODS: One hundred-twenty SD rats (half male and half female) were randomly divided into 5 groups: normal control, model, acupuncture, moxibustion and warm acupuncture, with 24 rats in each group. The KOA model was established by injection of 4% Papain (0.25 mL/kg) into the right knee cavity on day 1, 3 and 7. Rats in the acupuncture, moxibustion and warm acupuncture groups were treated with manual acupuncture, moxibustion and warm acupuncture stimulation of "Neixiyan"(EX-LE4), "Waixiyan"(EX-LE5) and "Zusanli"(ST36), respectively for 20 min, once a day for 21 days. The volume of the right knee-joint was measured by using drainage method and its width measured using a vernier caliper. The histopathological changes of the right knee cartilage were observed after H.E. stain, and scored (0 to 14 points) with reference to Markin's methods. The expression levels of ROCK, Cofilin, phospho-Cofilin, LIMK1 and phospho-LIMK1 proteins of the right knee synovial tissue were detected by Western blot. RESULTS: After modeling, the width and the volume since day 6 of the right knee-joint and Markin score of the cartilage, as well as the expression levels of ROCK, phospho-Cofilin, and phospho-LIMK1 proteins were significantly increased in the model group in contrast to the normal control group (P0.05).. CONCLUSION: Acupuncture, moxibustion and warm acupuncture can reduce arthritic injury in KOA rats, which is closely associated with their effects in down-regulating the expression of chondrocyte cytoskeletal proteins ROCK, phospho-Cofilin and phospho-LIMK1. The efficacy of warm acupuncture is evidently superior to that of simple acupuncture and simple moxibustion.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of warm acupuncture on behavior and contents of serum immunoglobulin E(IgE), interleukin-1 β(IL-1 β) and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) in allergic rhinitis(AR) rats, so as to explore its mechanism underlying improving AR. METHODS: Forty Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups: control group, model group, medication group and warm acupuncture group(10 rats/group). The AR model was established by intraperitoneal injection of sensitization and nasal drip. The rats in the medication group were given fluticasone propionate nasal spray, daily for 10 days. Warm acupuncture was applied to "Fengchi"(GB 20), "Yintang"(GV 29), "Yingxiang"(LI 20) for 60 seconds, once daily for 10 days. Behavioral scores were used to evaluate behavioral changes in rats. Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to detect the expression levels of serum IgE, IL-1 β and TNF-α. RESULTS: Behavioral scores of the model group were significantly higher than those of the control group 0, 3, 7 and 10 days after modeling (P<0.05). After treatment, the behavioral scores of medication group and the warm acupuncture group were lower than those of the model group (P<0.05), and the score was more lower in the warm acupuncture group than in the medication group (P<0.05). Compared with the control group, the levels of serum IgE, IL-1 β and TNF-α in the model group were all increased (P<0.01), while the levels of serum IgE, IL-1 β and TNF-α were decreased in the medication and warm acupuncture groups after treatment in comparison with the model group (P<0.05, P<0.01). Compared with the medication group, the levels of serum IgE, IL-1 β and TNF-α were significantly lower in the warm acupuncture group (P<0.05, P<0.01). CONCLUSION: The expression levels of IgE, IL-1 β and TNF-α were elevated in serum after AR attack. Warm acupuncture can improve the symptoms of AR rats, which may be associated to its effect in inhibiting the expression of serum IgE, IL-1 β and TNF-α.

ABSTRACT

This study was aimed to observe the clinical effect of acupuncture together with warm acupuncture on fe-male type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients of dual deficiency of yin and yang syndrome. A total of 92 female T2DM patients of dual deficiency of yin and yang syndrome were divided into two groups, which were priority of yin deficiency in the type of dual deficiency of yin and yang (group 1) and priority of yang deficiency in the type of dual deficiency of yin and yang (group 2). There were 46 cases in each group. The treatment of acupuncture together with warm acupuncture was given for three month. The observation was made on the fasting plasma glucose (FPG), fasting leptin (FLP), fasting insulin (FINS), insulin sensitivity index (ISI), insulin resistance index (Homa-IR), insulin secre-tion index (Homa-β), total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high den-sity lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), body mass, body mass index (BMI) and body fat percentage (F%) before and af-ter treatment. The results showed that the total effective rate of group 1 was 69.57%, while the total effective rate of group 2 was 84.78%. There was no significant statistical difference between two groups. Compared with pretreatment, there were significant decrease on FLP, FPG, FINS, Homa-IR, TC, TG, LDL-C, body mass, BMI, and F% of both groups after treatment (P < 0.01). There was obvious increase on ISI, Homa-β, and HDL-C (P < 0.01). After treat-ment, the FPG, Homa-β and BMI of group 2 were better than group 1 (P< 0.05). After treatment, the level of LDC-C and HDC-L of both groups reached normal level. And the FPG of group 2 also reached normal level. It was con-cluded that acupuncture together with warm acupuncture can significantly adjust the level of fat-pancreatic islet shaft of T2DM patients of dual deficiency of yin and yang syndrome, reduce the leptin resistance and insulin resistance, enhance the sensibility of insulin and the function of pancreatic β cell, and correct the endocrine disorder, gly-cometabolism disorder and lipometabolism disorder. Acupuncture together with warm acupuncture did much better in lowering blood sugar and improving the function of pancreatic β cells of T2DM patients whose priority of yang defi-ciency in the type of dual deficiency of yin and yang than those whose priority of yin deficiency in the type of dual deficiency of yin and yang.

ABSTRACT

Though tinnitus may concern many diseases of the whole body, most of them source from ear itself.Combining taking acupoints along channel and differentiation of signs can relieve most patients of tinnitus on symptoms. The warm acupuncture is more effective than traditional pure acupuncture, for it can directly and effectively improve the blood circulation of ear, meanwhile I find out many tinnitus patients are related with injury of occipital and neck soft tissue,so treatment from that point can get good cure effect.
